On-camera talent reads from the reflected image of the LCD display, so it's very important to have a clear, bright image. Prompter People offers a choice of glass or acrylic Beamsplitter reflectors for Broadcast and Universal teleprompters. Glass Beamsplitter is our standard. Acrylic Beamsplitter is offered as an upgrade on initial orders.
Glass Beamsplitter has been an industry standard for over 50 years. The process fuses a light metallic coating over glass. We have taken the industry standard to a new level with our UlltraClear (TM) glass. UltraClear (TM) is a superior formulation without the impurities of "float glass", the kind of glass used by all other teleprompter manufacturers. This is the only glass suitable for HD production. The term 60/40 refers to the ratio of transmission vs. reflection. Sixty percent of the light is transmitted through the glass, reflecting 40 percent back to the viewer. While Beamsplitter glass provides a bright, sharp image, it is easily broken.
BEAMSPLITTER is available for situation where a brighter image of the script is desired, primarily outdoors in very bright conditions. This option uses our UltraClear (TM) glass with a more reflective fornulation. Light loss is 1 stop instead of 2/3 stop. If you are primarily prompting outside this is a good choice. UltraClear (TM) High Brightness glass is a $50 upgrade to the DV beamsplitters and a $75 upgrade to the 15/17" beamsplitter.
Acrylic Beamsplitter is Prompter People's revolutionary new reflector that has the high brightness of our Glass Beamsplitter with the unbreakable qualities of optical acrylic. Our acrylic base is a cast product, not an extruded one. This is the same process used to make eyeglasses and has none of the imperfections found in extruded acrylic. Its metallic coating is identical to 60/40 Glass Beamsplitter. A hard coat is added to provide a durable, scratch resistant surface. The optical quality is so high that Sony Pictures is using it with High Definition cameras for an upcoming feature film.
There is no difference between the optical properties of Glass Beamsplitter and Acrylic Beamsplitter. Glass Beamsplitter is an excellent choice for fixed installations. It is a poor choice for location video because it is easily broken. Acrylic Beamsplitter is the ideal reflector for any application - studio or field work. Get the brightness and sharpness of Beamsplitter and never worry about broken glass ruining a shoot again!
