Universal 15/17 Overview

The Universal 15 works with any camera and tripod combination! It utilizes a high quality 15" color VGA LCD display. The Universal 17 utilizes a larger 17" display for viewing at longer distances from the camera. Both models include 2 integrated stands that can be adjusted from a seated position to over 6'6" high. The included stands hold the teleprompter so that expensive heavy duty tripods are not needed.

Not sure if you need the Universa15/17 or Broadcast 15/17? You can even purchase a kit that will convert
the Universal15/17 to our camera mounted Broadcast 15/17 for just $295.

The Universal 15/17 is the fastest teleprompter setup available and works for the vast majority of situations. And with one thumbscrew the monitor can be removed and used on your desktop as a high quality 15" or 17" color LCD display! And like all of our models it breaks down quickly and compactly for easy transport!

The mirror frame slides quickly onto the mount and the LCD display attaches to the included teleprompter stand with a single thumbscrew for fast setup and breakdown. The patent pending acrylic mirror assembly is unbreakable and quickly slides into the mirror frame.
An optional 60/40 beamsplitter reflector is available.

The camera simply slides behind the unit and the lens shade is placed around the camera. The stand can be adjusted from a seating position all the way up to over
6 1/2 feet. In most teleprompter applications the talent
is either sitting down or standing in a fixed position.
The camera can be panned 10-15 degrees in any direction and allows the talent to move a reasonable amount in front of the prompter.

The Universal 15/17 can be ganged with other teleprompters with our optional distribution amplifier.
This allows up to four separate units to be operated in tandem with one computer for multiple camera studio setups. The distribution amplifier also boosts the Vga signal so that the displays can be used up to 250 feet from the computer.

On-camera talent reads from the reflected image of the LCD display, so it's very important to have a clear, bright image. Prompter People offers a choice of glass or acrylic Beamsplitter reflectors for Broadcast and Universal teleprompters. Glass Beamsplitter is our standard. Acrylic Beamsplitter is offered as an upgrade on initial orders.

Ultraclear(TM) Glass Beamsplitter

Glass Beamsplitter has been an industry standard for over 50 years. The process fuses a light metallic coating over glass. We have taken the industry standard to a new level with our UlltraClear (TM) glass. UltraClear (TM) is a superior formulation without the impurities of "float glass", the kind of glass used by all other teleprompter manufacturers. This is the only glass suitable for HD production. The term 60/40 refers to the ratio of transmission vs. reflection. Sixty percent of the light is transmitted through the glass, reflecting 40 percent back to the viewer. While Beamsplitter glass provides a bright, sharp image, it is easily broken.

Ultraclear(TM) High Brightness

BEAMSPLITTER is available for situation where a brighter image of the script is desired, primarily outdoors in very bright conditions. This option uses our UltraClear (TM) glass with a more reflective fornulation. Light loss is 1 stop instead of 2/3 stop. If you are primarily prompting outside this is a good choice. UltraClear (TM) High Brightness glass is a $50 upgrade to the DV beamsplitters and a $75 upgrade to the 15/17" beamsplitter.

Acrylic Beamsplitter

Acrylic Beamsplitter is Prompter People's revolutionary new reflector that has the high brightness of our Glass Beamsplitter with the unbreakable qualities of optical acrylic. Our acrylic base is a cast product, not an extruded one. This is the same process used to make eyeglasses and has none of the imperfections found in extruded acrylic. Its metallic coating is identical to 60/40 Glass Beamsplitter. A hard coat is added to provide a durable, scratch resistant surface. The optical quality is so high that Sony Pictures is using it with High Definition cameras for an upcoming feature film.

Summary

There is no difference between the optical properties of Glass Beamsplitter and Acrylic Beamsplitter. Glass Beamsplitter is an excellent choice for fixed installations. It is a poor choice for location video because it is easily broken. Acrylic Beamsplitter is the ideal reflector for any application - studio or field work. Get the brightness and sharpness of Beamsplitter and never worry about broken glass ruining a shoot again!

Teleprompter systems with a 15 or 17” monitor come with a 5-foot VGA cable.  DV9, DV11 and CNV10 prompters come with an 8-foot VGA cable that plugs into your laptop.  If you would like to keep the computer out of the immediate prompting environment, you will need a VGA extension.  Our 25-foot HD extension cable is $40.  The 50-foot HD extension cable is $70 and must be used with a Distribution Amp (see next item).

VGA Distribution Amplifier   VGA Reverser Box
There are two uses for this device.  It can be used to split the signal between two to four teleprompters from a single PC, or as a signal amplifier if you need to run 35 feet to 200 feet of VGA cable.  It has four amplified outputs from one input. Don't forget the extra cable when ordering!
DA-VGA

The included Flip-Q LIte software that comes free with the system reverses the VGA output. The VGA Reverser can be used when you need to display non scrolling text such as PowerPoint slides. The VGA reverser box electronically reverses the entire desktop so that it is readable on the teleprompter mirror. Some specialized applications require hardware reversal of the text.  When a reversing monitor isn’t available, this is the answer.
